Discovery Night Launch 12/09/06
Discovery blazes thru the night sky (and I almost wrecked my car).
Space Shuttle Discovery and its crew of seven lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center last night (12/9/06) at 8:47 pm EST in a rare night launch that could be seen lighting up the night sky across the state of Florida.
It was the 1st night launch in 4 yrs and only number 29 out of 117 total launches. Some bystanders commented that it was much like watching sunrise at an incredibly rapid pace. *swoon* My interpretation was more along the lines of watching an immense, catastrophic meteor fleeing the earth for space, giant smoke trail in tow. An evening launch is something that every person (no matter their generation or interest pool) should witness first hand in their lifetime. You will walk away from it a changed person with a new appreciation for space flight – and feelings of absolutely indescribable awe.
