Google Logo-Palooza 2008

Posted in Misc. on 18 September 2008 by brandi

It seems I’ve finished my roster of 2008 Google Logo’s. At least all those made public as of today’s date. One more block of space on the internet wasted, one more slice of self amusement consumed.

Go have a peek!

While you’re doing that I’ll slap the 2007’s up (faster than the doctor fainted when my Mother squeezed me out of her Boomkin Doomkin Den 33 years ago!)

Dear Ft. Campbell Boys

STOP that! Stop stop stop stop stop! Now!

Your artillery games might be necessary, but all night long???? I don’t even know what the hell you’re shooting out there, but these aren’t the kind of bombs that I want to hear going “off” at 2am. Surely you can think of better things to shoot during this time of the night as well?  Hint: If you can shake my house that hard from 5 miles away, imagine how hard you could shake it in person! /wink

Seriously – It sounds like there are cows raining down on my roof! Not the greatest thing to hear when you live alone in the middle of nowhere – fearing there’s some hobo lurking on the side of the house, or a Gollum like creature dancing on the roof waiting to slurp your intestines out with a makeshift gut-sucking straw.

So, unless all of you want to make up for this anxiety inducing bullshit by flying your Chinooks over my house around dusk to hover and propel your hot little chiseled asses slowly down in unison, with your pants @ your ankles – so that I can sit on my white bench and be forced to feel the sort of patriotism every undersexed girl in this beautiful, free country SHOULD feel – STOP THAT SHIT!!!!!!

Thank you!

P.S. The offer to propel down into my yard with your pants @ your ankles still stands. You can contact me via email to provide advanced notice so that I can be properly slathered in bug repellent, wielding night vision goggles and waiting outside in preparation.

Wot!?!

Oh F*ckin’ No’s – Bennigan’s is gone forever!

What the hell? Another staple of my youth goes poof!

Next it will be Ruby Tuesdays & The Malted Mudslide I became so quickly acquainted with upon ringing in my 21st birthday. Good Times. Leaving work to hit the restaurant patio for some twilight drunkenness. /cry

I’m going to blame George W. Bush’s beady weasel eyes for this! /shakes fist

Happy 50th Anniversary NASA

Posted in Misc. on 29 July 2008 by brandi

Every bit of this excites me.  NASA’s 50th Anniversary is upon us and with that, their website is brimming with more excitement, interactive amusement, research info and photographs than even I know what to do with. Since I frequently cover the site inside and out there usually isn’t much I haven’t seen, read or played with – but now it seems I have a few weeks worth of catching up to do. Viva La Procrastination En Space! A few things you should look for prior to getting lost: MyNasa to personalize your content, NASA Kids Club to enlighten and amuse your budding space nerds.

And before I go I want to share one thing in particular with my photoshop monkey brethren.

As part of NASA’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, we are collecting images from YOU! Have the photo include – anywhere in the shot – the NASA 50th Anniversary logo, and send the photo to us.

So…

Posted in Misc. on 29 July 2008 by brandi

If you’ve ever known someone who had PTSD and thought to yourself (or outloud) that they should “just get over it” when considering their specific anxieties… you’re wasting a lot of oxygen that someone else could be using and should cease inspiration immediately.

That is all.

Hey baby!

Congrats to my friend Bryan & his wife Janae on the birth of their first son Collyn Patrick, July 3rd. And congrats to Chelsi on becoming a big sister.

How do you pick a rice seed?

Posted in Misc. on 29 July 2008 by brandi

Probably one of the dumbest things I’ve ever wondered.

Sure, I know what rice fields look like, that they’re often grown in water (but only as a measure of weed prevention, not out of complete necessity) I’ve seen the stacks of rice stalks being harvested, but something made me curious… where the fuck is the actual rice? Well, here it is. One more brain cell wasted, one step closer to… well, nowhere.

Solar Conjuction w/ Mercury

Posted in Misc. on 29 July 2008 by brandi

Mercury has phases and today it is full. Don’t look, though, because the bright rocky planet is only 2o from the sun. It’s a high-noon solar conjunction that only SOHO (the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) can see. SOHO uses its onboard coronagraph to block the sun’s glare and reveal the planet nearby.

Save Internet Neutrality

Posted in Misc. on 22 July 2008 by brandi

From 12/08/2006.

I’m reposting because i’d really like to know what the hell (if anything) has happened since the original article posted. If you have any legit follow ups, please post.

/kicks computer. Sure seems to be solidly assembled, that internet.

BAD NEWS: Big Media companies are planning to dismantle the internet as we know it. Think this is a joke? Think again.More...

AT&T and Bell South are planning a multi-billion dollar deal that will END Net Neutrality – The principle the internet was founded on. What does this mean? It means that large corporations will be in control of everything you see and do online. THEY will decide which web pages load and how fast. They’ll control what you can view and what you can’t.

The coolest thing about the net is that ANYONE can become a celebrity or spread a message. You can start a YouTube video or a blog and reach millions of people without spending a cent! This SCARES big corporations. So AT&T and Bell South are planning a merger that will allow them to control which websites internet users can see and how fast websites will load.

How can they do this? By killing net neutrality – the principle that all sites should be treated equally. Without net neutrality Media companies can slow down or cut off sites that don’t pay them large sums of money.Independent Media companies and individuals won’t be able to compete. Which means that the internet will become like television – If you don’t have money, you can’t get a channel.
The REALLY bad news: Time is running out – The FCC is considering the case RIGHT NOW and they are planning to rubber stamp it unless there is huge public outcry.

  • WHAT YOU CAN DO:
  1. Repost this message! - (Only takes three mouse clicks!) Word-of-Net lets us reach hundreds of thousands of people online. Use it to fight Big Media while we still can!
Go to SaveTheInternet.com – Sign their petition, learn about the issue, and tell your friends.
